Mastering Suspense (Part II)
May 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmFree
Explore with actors and other creatives aspects of suspense (compromising, dangerous, explosive secrets the audience knows but other characters don’t) over Zoom. The workshop is part actor dramatization, lecture presentation, collaborative brainstorming session, writing (on one’s own), and actor reading of participant work.
In Part 1 (April 24), participants will learn key aspects of suspense and brainstorm ideas for a suspense scene.
In Part 2 (May 8), participant work will be read by actors. There will also be a deeper dive into the art and craft of suspense. For Part 2, suspense scenes written by participants of no more than 5 pages are due May 1st at midnight to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Although no prior preparation is necessary, it is recommended that participants watch Sabotage (1936) in advance of the workshop.
Led by Paco José Madden, an activist/scholar/teacher/writer. He previously produced the interactive writing workshops “How to Write a Meet Cute” and “Writing the Stages of Fear.”
